Kanyakumari: The Land of Eternal Dawn and Dusk
1.kanyakumari - the virgin princess
the best thing to start in Kanyakumari was Kanyakumari temple itself: the experience I had over here and the beautiful aura around this place. I tell you a little bit about the story first. the temple is dedicated to the goddess Kanyakumari, who is believed to be an incarnation of the goddess Parvati. The temple holds deep religious and mythological significance, its roots are tied to an ancient legend. According to the story, the goddess was deeply in love with lord siva and wanted to marry him. However, her marriage was interrupted by the demon Banasura, who tricked her into believing that the auspicious time for her wedding had passed. As a result, she remained a virgin, and the temple houses her idol in this eternal form as a young, beautiful woman. She is depicted as a young woman with jewelry, holding a sword in one hand and a lotus flower in the other. The sword represents strength and protection, while the lotus symbolizes purity and grace.
the other story says that the goddess has a diamond nose ring which was obtained from a King cobra. the ring shines so bright that the ancient sailors mistook it for a lighthouse and buried their ships in Kanyakumari rocks.to prevent this from happening they closed the eastern door of the temple which faces the sea. now it only opens on five special occasions a year.
And now, let me share my experiences at the Kanyakumari temple. I’ve visited Kanyakumari many times, but for me, the most captivating element here is always the temple itself. This particular time, I wasn’t alone; my partner and I prepared for our visit. After leaving our shoes outside, we bought some flowers and a coconut, as these are traditional offerings.
Stepping inside, I noticed the “no camera” policy, which I actually appreciated; it allowed me to fully immerse myself in the temple’s mood rather than focusing on clicking pictures. We walked towards the main entrance, enveloped by the incredibly calm atmosphere. The goddess idol was beautifully adorned with vibrant colors and bright clothes. We made our prayers and walked around the Devi. While circling, I noticed ancient writings on the wall. Unable to read them, I asked people nearby if they could decipher them for me, but even they couldn’t. I waited, studying the carvings, until a temple priest arrived. I asked him too, but he also confessed he didn’t know. I was truly surprised that no one seemed to understand these old inscriptions.
Afterward, we decided to simply sit inside the temple; we were in no hurry. We found a quiet spot behind the idol, and it was wonderful. A profound calm settled over my mind. It felt as if Kanyakumari Devi has been protecting and watching over this land since its very beginning. After some time, when I opened my eyes, many more people had gathered and were sitting around.
As we started to make our way out, a priest from the temple approached us and asked us to wait for the upcoming puja (prayer ritual). I was so happy for the chance to witness it! We settled back down inside the temple. After the puja concluded and the doors opened, it felt truly magical to have been there. After receiving the prasadam (sacred offering), we left the temple and went to the seaside, watching the ocean under the soft moonlight.
2.sunrise point in southern tip of india
Sunrise Point in Kanyakumari is one of the most popular and breathtaking spots in India, known for its stunning panoramic views of the sun rising over the horizon where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean meet. Located at the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent, we came here early in the morning to witness this beautiful moment. there were hundreds of people to do the same. There was a broken boat which made it more unique to have textures in the water. after mutes the sun came across the horizon, It’s not just a visual treat but also an emotionally charged experience for us, as the rising sun for hope, new beginnings, and positivity. after this, we went to see watching the golden lights splashing over the horizon and straight to us. we stood over there watching the sun as it was rising higher into the clouds.
3.sunset point in kanyakumari
A must-visit place for a traveler, or a photographer, the colors made to water when the sun is over the horizon to dip down itself to the Arabian Sea is the most iconic thing to take a photographic memory for us. over here I also met some riders who came for the royal Enfield gathering across the country, I met a person from Assam wonderful human from the northeast hills who rode down all the way to visit Kanyakumari and witness the beautiful sunset of the Arabian Sea.
